In Austria, the rapid rescue of people trapped in elevators is regulated by law. The operator must ensure that people trapped in or on the elevator car are rescued immediately, with rescue operations beginning no later than 30 minutes after the emergency call is made (Vienna Elevator Act §12. (10)).
Operators of elevator systems are required to employ either their own elevator attendants or specialized service providers connected to a 24/7 emergency call center.

The successful completion of the rescue is signaled to the emergency call center by the emergency response driver pressing an “End Call” button or placing a new emergency call. The operation is fully documented, and a detailed report is sent to all contacts listed in the emergency response plan.
